There are a lot of people out there who won’t agree with this list. The “original” techno started with the Detroit movement in the 80′s. But the techno that people are more familiar with is synonymous with electronic dance music. At the risk of pleasing the crowd instead of the experts, I’ve chosen to list the best techno songs which you can dance to, and which you can also remember long after you’ve danced to it. So you could say that these are the most memorable dance techno songs for many years.

If you’re like me and you want to also become your very own DJ or techno artist, then of course you need to know where to start. The great thing that I like most about techno music is that, as the name implies, it’s “technological”, meaning that to get started all you really need is your computer plus some determination to try. Why, you’ve got all the basic hardware you need right in front of you! That’s one of the things that I like about techno music and electronica, the fact that you don’t really need to fuss over musical instruments and various recording equipment, you also don’t need to worry so much about your playing skills. Of course knowing how to play a musical instrument can help, but the great thing here is that you can survive without it.

I’m assuming that if you’re staring in front of a computer right now, and I know you are, then you already have all the hardware for making techno music. Now what remains is the choice of software. If you’re someone who wants to go all out into the water, and if you want the best music production software right away, then maybe you can shell out two-hundred to four-hundred dollars for Reason 6, which is the best program for making techno songs on the market right now. However, be warned, it’s so complete and feature rich–the same software used by professional producers–that it can also be overwhelming. I’ve written various reviews about this great product which you can read on the website. The good thing about Reason 6 is that it’s really all you need not just to make high quality techno songs, but practically any song in other genres as well. In other words, it’s a complete Digital Audio Workstation.

However another option, and one which I personally recommend, is to start with a more basic program, to just get your feet wet. Something to familiarize you with the process of making your own beats, loops, etc. and just coming up with your own full-fledged techno song in about an hour or two. One of the most popular options for the beginner is definitely DUB Turbo.

What I like about DUB Turbo is that it simply does what it was made for, and it keeps things clean and simple. They have a significant selection of sounds that can create anything from techno, dance, to hip-hop. Although I won’t say that your first track will be a Billboard hit, you can easily produce mp3 tracks which you can share with your friends or show off in Youtube and Facebook right away. Also, you don’t need any additional equipment, since you can use your computer keyboard as you would a drum pad or piano keyboard. If you’re going for the long haul and want to become a professional I’d recommend Reason 6, but if you want to learn things slowly, and just have a nice stepping stone towards your DJ career, then I’d recommend DUB Turbo.

techno songs fatali

Here’s a great techno song you can download for free by one of Israel’s most talented techno artists. Homeless by Fatali starts of with some interesting ambient noises, and then gets into that thumping techno rhythm that despite the repetition continues to be interesting. The song is long at almost eight minutes, with some interesting transitions in the middle, and a powerful build-up towards the end. Definitely a stream of sustained energy from a powerful techno artist. It’s definitely a track which can drive your body to dance.

Fatali is the name for Etian Carmi, born in Nazareth Illit, Israel. He already has several critically acclaimed albums under his belt, starting at the age of 19 in 2003, with his debut album “Moments”, which was released in the UK. His sound is described as being powerful and invigorating, using head-on and enrapturing trance, and progressive and psychedelic elements, while also retaining those memorable melodies for repeated listens. techno songs analog worms attack

Featuring the triple Platinum techno song single “Flat Beat”, which sold 2 million copies in 1999 through a Levi’s commercial), Analog Worms Attack is one of the most unique and at times beautifully dark techno albums ever made. Not perhaps for the mainstream techno fan, but for those who are into more unique, avant-garde music. Mr. Oizo is the pseudonym of French techno artist and film director Quentin Dupiex. You can listen to and download the album or the techno song single here.

The Best Techno Songs by Daft Punk

TechnoSongs - Daft Punk - Discovery

The album “Discovery” by Daft Punk is considered by many to be their greatest album, containing their best techno songs ever. It’s famous for the unpredictable variety of sounds, which were also created through a variety of interesting ways. There’s just something fantastic and irresistible about every single one of these tracks.

The first song on the album, “One More Time” is a great party track and will get you humming it long after your first listen, and one which instantly grabs your attention for the rest of the album. The second song “Aerodynamic” is one with a screaming guitar solo that reminds you of Yngwie Malmsteen, while ending with a crazy mesh of bass lines and hyper harmonics. “Digital Love” is filled with cheesy and monosyllabic lyrics, but which catches you by the neck with its summer groove. One of my favorites is “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, which is a great dance song on its own, but which also showcases a very unique technique with the vocoder. You just have to hear it to believe it. The rest of the songs are also unique, with a lot of potential to grow on you with repeated listens. The whole album is a combination of various styles: funk, disco, pop, techno, etc. And is truly Daft Punk’s major masterpiece.

You can listen and preview the techno songs of the album here.
